• Obligatory Tax Stamps 1940s: Train & Posthorn – A Study Obligatory Tax stamps were typically required to be used in addition to the normal postage rates, perhaps for a short continuous period, or on one day of each week or on a particular class of mail.
Bosnia
• 1992 Bosnia – Republika Srpska There is the only railway thematic issue for the Serbian controlled area of Bosnia. It consists of a 100d surcharge (with bars obliterating the original 1d on the Yugoslavia stamp) and, in Cyrillic, the words Republika Srpska (Serb Republic).

• Unit Stamps of China and later surcharges These so-called Unit issues were first introduced in May 1949 for the parts of China still under the control of the (Nationalist) Government of Chiang Kai-shek. They were an NVI (No Value Indicated) issue, a useful method of issuing stamps in a period of high inflation.
